Recording Studio – Take 2

November 7th, 2006

This past weekend I began work on building a partition wall in my basement that will become the new studio. Since I moved to my new home in Hampstead, we have been unable to record any new material…so I am very excited to get this project underway.

The plan is to section off the current L-shaped layout into two rooms (one for the studio and the other for my sons’ playroom). The Auralex sound treatment is going back up once I get the room patched and painted. I am going to find another method to secure the foam this time (Previously, I glued the foam to the wall using TubeTak which made it almost impossible to remove).

At some point I also plan on converting a large closet in the back of the studio into a vocal booth. My biggest worry is extra noise from the furnace located adjacent to the studio. I may have to add additional sound proofing to the inside of the utility room that houses the furnace to address this extra noise generated during the winter and summer months.

So far the new partition wall is framed and secured. I plan to begin sheetrocking one side of the wall tonight. I’ll post some pictures of the progress over the next couple of weeks.
